The opening of Sotheby’s Hong Kong Gallery proved an ideal location to host the company’s inaugural May sale of Important Watches. Comprised of highly desirable contemporary timepieces from renowned makers such as Patek Philippe, Cartier, Vacheron Constantin and Audemars Piguet, the sale is expected to draw global interest in this popular category.
The sale of Important Modern Watches has achieved a total of HK$35 million / US$4.5 million (Est. HK$25 – 35 million / US$3.2 – 4.5 million*), bringing Sotheby’s Hong Kong seasonal total for watches to an astounding HK$256.7 million / US$32.9 million, the highest ever seasonal total for watch auctions at a single location.
The top lot of the sale was the magnificent Vacheron Constantin King Kalla sold for HK$5.8 million / US$743,590, setting a world auction record for the model.
