Modern & Post-War British Art brought a total of £5,685,975. A record price was achieved for a work on paper by Bridget Riley when Dark Green and Blue with Red Added, Plain Diagonal (1979) soared above its high estimate and sold for £338,500. Another world record was set by William Turnbull's monumental Large Horse (1988-9) which fetched £614,500, more than triple its pre-sale low estimate and smashed the previous record of £187,200. We were also thrilled to achieve a new world record for Eric Gill of £278,500, nearly double the previous auction record of £145,250.

The Modern & Post-War British Art Evening Auction will follow on directly from the sale of Abstraction: Post-War Painting from the David Thomson Collection, lots 1-20, at 6pm on the 10th December 2013.

Featuring an exciting selection of important works by some of Britain’s most respected and well-known artists, the Evening and Day Auctions presents many items that will appear at auction for the first time. Incorporating exceptional early and Post-War paintings and works on paper by artists such as L.S. Lowry and Patrick Heron, with sculptures from important international collections by the likes of Eric Gill and William Turnbull, the sale will also offer works by some of Britain’s renowned Pop artists including Patrick Caulfield and David Hockney, alongside others such as Edward Burra.  We are also pleased to be offering two outstanding rare pieces by Leon Kossoff - a gouache and a drawing.
