The Modern and Contemporary Southeast Asian Paintings Day Sale recorded a total of HK$103 million / US$13 million. The top lot of the sale, Lee Man Fong's Kampung (Village), sold for HK$11.8 million / US$1.5 million (Expected to fetch over HK$8 million / US$1 million*). This sale has successfully set new auction records for various artists including Sudjana Kerton, Ang Kiukok and Pham Hau.
Sotheby's Modern and Contemporary Southeast Asian Paintings sale this October features several of the finest artworks available in this category. Lee Man Fong's panoramic landscape Kampung (Village) reflects the Indonesian artist's strong affinity for his natural surroundings, while I Nyoman Masriadi's Aerobik (Aerobic) observes the world through an ironic and critical lens, in contrast to Sudjana Kerton’s joyous gathering of musicians in Keroncong Moritsku (Ukulele).
