Our 9 October sale of Impressionist & Modern Art Including Russian Art achieved $2.6 million.
Leading the sale was Henri Matisse's Vierge à l'enfant (Sketch for Venice Chapel) which brought over $81,000, more than double its high estimate. David Davidovich Burliuk's Mexico, Acapulco also performed well selling for $75,000 over a high estimate of $40,000.
The first Impressionist and Modern sale of the new art season will be held in New York on 9 October and includes property from important estates and private collections. The sale is rich in works by French artists, including Berthe Morisot, Maximilien Luce, Raoul Dufy, Jean Dufy and Louis Valtat. A drawing by Henri Matisse for the Vence Chapel comes to us from a Canadian estate. Asian artists include Le Pho and Vu Cao Dam and a section of Russian works, including works by David Burliuk, Boris Grigoriev, and Mikhail Chemiakin, rounds out the sale.
