Sotheby’s 20th Century Italian Art auction achieved a total of £15,079,500 in a sale in which almost half the artworks sold made over their high estimates. Lucio Fontana’s 1960 Concetto Spaziale led the auction, finally selling to a bidder on the telephone for £1,594,500. Four fresh-to-the-market works from the celebrated collection of the late Stanley J. Seeger also sold for a combined total of £2,050,000, more than twice their estimate.
