Sotheby's Print Department is very pleased to introduce our upcoming auction which will include a diverse group of Matisse prints from a Private New York Collector, which ranges from the artist's first print, the drypoint Henri Matisse Gravant of 1900-03 to a bright impression of the color aquatint Marie-José en Robe Jaune of 1950. The sale also includes a fine impression of Grand Odalisque a la Culotte Bayadere, the artist's virtuoso lithograph of 1925. By Pablo Picasso we offer a unique proof of the rare Couple Debout, an experimental linocut featuring five vignettes arranged on a bold violet ground. The sale also includes a proof of one of these single compositions,Bacchanale au chat et à la chèvre, one of five impressions further manipulated using a rincée technique. In the Contemporary portion of the sale we are thrilled to offer seminal works by Jasper Johns (Savarin) and Louise Bourgeois (He Disappeared Into Complete Silence).
