With a wide selection of paintings, sculpture and other works of art, Sotheby's sale of Modern & Contemporary Art in Amsterdam features important CoBrA works by Asger Jorn, Anton Rooskens, Pierre Alechinsky and Karel Appel from a private European collection. These works are joined by Anselm Kiefer'sMarie-Antoinette, executed in 1986, the same year he created Die Frauen der Revolution - a large scale assemblage of 12 small steel frames with dried lilies of the valley and roses behind glass that has been part of the collection of the Stedelijk Museum in Amsterdam since 1987. The work in this sale is similar to the fragment of the larger piece. Marie-Antoinette was a gift from the Dutch designer and art collector, Martin Visser, to the interior designer Benno Premsela. Mr. Visser also donated over 20 works by Anselm Kiefer to the Kröller-Müller Museum in Otterlo, The Netherlands.
