Sotheby's sixteenth annual Irish Sale brings together some exceptional works that have never appeared on the auction market before. These include a seminal portrait by Sir John Lavery of his beautiful wife Hazel, The Gold Turban (lot 30) and undoubtedly the most important early masterpiece by Louis le Brocquy: Spanish Shawl, A Study in White (lot 70), alongside other exemplary works by artists such as Jack B. Yeats, Roderic O'Conor, Sean Keating, Gerard Dillon and Daniel O'Neill. The sale also offers a unique opportunity to experience an exciting group of works by Aloysius O'Kelly (lots 10-26) that demonstrate the broad range of subjects he painted throughout his career, and a collection of dynamic and colourful works by Harry Kernoff (lots 53-69).
We are also delighted to present a strong selection of Contemporary Irish Art including Sean Scully's Eriskay (lot 92), Basil Blackshaw's The Morning Exercise (lot 77) as well as works by artists such as John Doherty, Hughie O'Donoghue, William Crozier, John Shinnors, Edward Delaney and Donald Teskey. Highlights from the exhibition will tour to Lismore Castle Arts (17-18th April), Dublin (20-21st April) and Belfast (23-24th April). For enquiries, please contact the specialists below.
