This is the first auction in France dedicated to architectural elements, garden statuary and antique fireplaces. The more than 600 lots come from the renowned specialist dealer Origines, and prior to the auction at Sotheby's the sale will be on show at Origine's premises at Richebourg to the west of Paris.
The sale features about 150 chimney pieces - ranging from stone 16th century to mantel chimney pieces from the reign of Louis XIV, rare Louis XV marble pieces and classic Louis XVI examples. The 19th century is also particularly well represented with an amazing terracotta chimney, made in Vienna in around 1880, and decorated to celebrate the Hapsburg family. There is also an array of interior and exterior sculpture, such as ornamental park and garden pieces, wells, statues, wrought iron grilles and monumental architectural elements. It is hoped that each will one day adorn an exceptional home and garden and bring to its setting both the beauty and gravitas of old stone.
