The upcoming sale of Old Master and Early British paintings has a diverse selection of works from a broad range of periods and schools. There are some interesting works on offer in both on offer in both sessions with estimates ranging from £5,000 to £50,000, proving that it is still possible to acquire works in this field at reasonable prices.
As well as works by the more well known artists, such as a lovely signed and dated Jan van Goyen, this sale includes some rarities such as an early Madonna and Child by Carlo Portelli and a set of four oils by Rosalba Carriera, better known for her pastel works. There are also a number of exciting discoveries including the Crowning of Homer by Jacopo Amigoni, a previously unknown Madonna by Daniele Crespi and a recently identified Mocking of Christ by the young Giordano.
Session Two includes some more modestly priced painting, such as a two small head studies by the Dutch artist Jacob Toorenvliet, a signed seascape by Renier Nooms, called Zeeman and fine selection of English portraits.
