The May 2010 sale of Latin American art will present exceptional works from several distinguished international collections. Among the highlights of this sale is Wifredo Lam's 1945 lyrical painting Sur les traces and Leonora Carrington's Ordeal of Owain coming to us from a very distinguished collection in Aspen.
Other highlights of the sale are Remedios Varo's Invocación, Roberto Matta Cubo Abierto and several great examples of works by Fernando Botero including the large Odalisca and Still life with fruit juice. Unique to the sale is Diego Rivera's Portrait of Gladys March who was one of Rivera's biographers with her book Diego Rivera, My Art, My life. This lot is offered together with sections of March's original manuscripts and handwritten notes, letters and photographs pertaining to her encounters with the illustrious artist. The sale comes together with some rarely seen drawings and sculptures by German born, Venezuelan artist Gego which figures prominently in the section dedicated to mid century abstract art together with Jesús Rafael Soto's Escritura Negra a la Izquierda from 1977.
