The sale this summer of Important Furniture, Silver and Ceramics offers ninety-two carefully chosen lots of European decorative arts, ranging in date from the mid-16th century to the late 19th century, each selected for its artistic merit, strength of design, rarity and quality. Included is a wonderful group of English and Irish mirrors including a previously undocumented English scagliola mirror attributed to Baldassare Artima, a pair of The Chicheley Mirrors supplied by Mr Odell in 1722, and two Irish mirrors attributed to John and Francis Booker. An impressive Private Collection of globes formed over several decades is also on offer.
Important French furniture from maître ébénistes is represented by a bureau plat by Doirat, a bureau à cylindre stamped by the renowned C.C.Saunier and a Royal suite of seat furniture supplied by Jacob and Sené for the Château de Montreuil. An early Maiolica dish by Nicola da Urbino and an important Meissen desert service highlight the ceramic selection whilst the stars of the silver lots are a magnificent silver-gilt cup and cover of 1790 by Wakelin and Taylor supplied to Maurice Mahon, later 1st Baron Hartland and an impressive pair of silver gilt candelabra by R.& S. Garrard & Co. of London.
