Taking place in the elegant surroundings of Sothebys headquarters in Paris at the Galerie Charpentier, this sale will offer a wide array of furniture and works of art, predominately from the 18th century.
This sale includes an attractive group of 20 pieces from an amateur, including a rare pair of Louis XV fauteuils à chassis by the menuisier Cresson laîné carved with asymmetrical cartouches and foliage that is one of several examples of seat furniture from the Régence to the early Empire. This particular example shows the virtuosity and creativity of the chairmakers in Paris in the middle of the 18th century. The sale also features a number of pieces of Empire furniture of grand taste, illustrating the quality and style fashionable in the Imperial residences.
This auction will also host a sculpture section with rare examples of exterior sculpture, such as this pair of monumental stone sphinxes from circa 1740-50, and a statue of Neptune from the beginning of the 18th century.
