Sotheby's Fall sale of Important Canadian Art offers an impressive range of works from the late 19th century to present day, including major paintings by members of the Group of Seven, the women of the Beaver Hall Group, Les Plasticiens, Painters 11, and the Automatistes.
Masterpieces by F.H. Varley, J.E.H. MacDonald and Emily Carr from the collection of E.R. Hunter, former director of the Norton Museum of Art in West Palm Beach and passionate Canadian Art collector and historian, highlight the sale. Hunter maintained supportive relationships with the members of the Group throughout his life and this proximity, combined with his exceptional taste, allowed him to acquire important works such as Wind Clouds which was exhibited in the first Group of Seven exhibition in 1920.
