Key among the works in the auction are two exceptional gilt bronze figures from a Private European Collection.
They depict two Luohans or Arhats - Ajita (lot 78 est. €350,000-500,000) and Cudapanthaka (lot 79 est. €350,000-500,000) - and their original position in the sanctuary in relation to the Buddha is incised on their bases, third to the east for Cudapanthaka and second to the West for Ajita. They have companion pieces in London's Victoria and Albert Museum and Munich's Staatliches Museum für Völkerkunde. Until now five other sculptures belonging to the same group have surfaced meaning these two new discoveries in Paris bring the total of identified pieces to seven.
