Philip Howell joined Sotheby’s in 1987. Prior to the opening of Sotheby’s Olympia in 2001, he was Head of the Ceramics department at Sotheby’s South. In 2007, he was made Head of the European Ceramics & Glass department, Sotheby’s London. Mr Howell has a wide knowledge of European and Oriental Ceramics and also serves as an Auctioneer for the department.
Prior to joining Sotheby's, he spent several years as a general valuer at two provincial auction houses in Herefordshire and Hampshire.
Mr Howell attended college in Southampton, where he earned qualifications for the Incorporated Society of Valuers and Auctioneers. He is a member of the French Porcelain Society, the English Ceramics Circle and the Derby International Porcelain Society.
