He became Head of Southeast Asian Paintings in 2001 and has been instrumental in the growth and development of the department in terms of value and exposure.

Mr. Mok is responsible for the tremendous success of Contemporary Southeast Asian Paintings at auction, in terms of both aggregate and individual sales, since the introduction of this category to auction in Autumn 1999. This has marked a period of consistent growth.

Under Mr Mok’s leadership, Sotheby’s Singapore has reached numerous significant milestones: The 20th Anniversary Sale in October 2005 reached the highest total ever for a sale in that location. Moreover, in April 2008, the Modern & Contemporary Southeast Asian Paintings sale, which was held for the first time at Sotheby’s Hong Kong, achieved the highest total for an auction in the category. In the October 2008 sale, I Nyoman Masriadi’s The Man from Bantul (The Final Round) was sold for a record-breaking price for works by the artist. Records for works by other Indonesian artists, including Affandi, Agus Suwage, Handiwirman Saputra, were also established.

The recent April 2011 in Hong Kong set the world record for any Contemporary Southeast Asian Paintings at auction and for the artists. Impressive artist records were set for Hendra Gunawan’s Penari Ular (Snake Dancer) and Ronald Ventura’s Grayground.

Other successful sales include S. Sudjojono’s A New Dawn which broke the world record for any Southeast Asian paintings and for the artist at auction (October 2010), and Lee Man Fong’s seminal work Bali Life which broke the world record for any southeast Asian paintings and for the artist at auction (April 2010).
