Maura Magenis joined Sotheby’s 19th Century Paintings & Sculpture Department in Milan in 1997, became a Cataloguer in 2001 and was later appointed Head of the department.

The department has organised several successful sales and achieved record prices for works, including Silvestro Lega’s Maternità (sold for €290.000 in June 2002), Federico Zandomeneghi’s Place Blanche Le Matin (sold for €649.682 in December 2002), Giovanni Fattori’s Cavalleggeri in Perlustrazione (sold for €188.000 in December 2002), Angelo Inganni’s Piazza della Scala, Milan (sold for €373.924 in June 2003) and the Russian-Italian artist Alessio Issupoff’s Una Sposa Kirghisa (sold in December 2006 for €98.000).

Ms Magenis studied at the Belle Arti Academy in Milan.
