James Mackie, Head of the Impressionist & Modern Art Department in London, is a key member of the team responsible for the Evening and Surrealist sales. Mr Mackie maintains relationships with many important international collectors and has played a vital role in Sotheby’s dominance of this market sector in recent years. Having joined the department in 2010, he was appointed Director, and from 2011-2013 was head of the highly successful Day Sales.
Mr Mackie’s career at Sotheby’s began in 2006 when he joined the Prints Department, where he was made Head of Department in 2009. During this time Mr Mackie worked on important single-owner sales dedicated to works by Henri Matisse and Pablo Picasso and in 2010 oversaw the most successful sale of Prints held at Sotheby’s in London. Prior to joining Sotheby’s Mr Mackie worked at Bonhams where he was a Board Director of their saleroom in Knightsbridge and Head of the Paintings Department.
