Dr Baoping Li is Director at Sotheby’s London and works as Senior International Researcher for the Chinese Departments in Hong Kong, New York and London. He received his BA and MA degrees from the School of Archaeology and Museology, Peking University, and his PhD from the University of Queensland, Australia. Before joining Sotheby’s in 2014 he worked as Research Fellow at the Universities of Queensland and of Sydney.

Dr. Li has specialised in the research of Chinese ceramics both from an art historical and a technical viewpoint, for which he received some highly competitive research grants. In the last two decades he has taken part in many Chinese and international research projects and publications and worked together with Curators of many of the major museums worldwide. He worked as Editor for the English language journal China Archaeology and Art Digest, Beijing & Hong Kong, as Acting Editor-in-Chief on the Complete Collection of Ceramics Art Unearthed in China (16 volumes, Beijing, 2008), and has overseen the Chinese translations of books on Chinese ceramics published by the British Museum. He currently is Deputy Editor-in-Chief of the Bulletin of Chinese Ceramic Art and Archaeology, an academic journal published by Peking University, and serves as Council Member of the Oriental Ceramic Society (London).
