Katalognotizen

The present lot is rendered in an exceptionally naturalistic manner and the composition appears to be rare, with one horse grooming the other in a very tender way. A comparable example with ruby-inlaid eyes is illustrated in Robert Kleiner, Chinese Jades from the Collection of Alan and Simone Hartman, p. 238, no. 187; and another in the Palace Museum, Beijing, illustrated in Jadeware (III), The Complete Collection of Treasures of the Palace Museum, Hong Kong, 1995, pl. 89. See also the jades horses sold Christie’s New York, 27th November, 1991, lot 155; and another, inscribed with a Qianlong seal mark, sold Christie's Hong Kong, 28th April 1996, lot 9.
