Ming Ma graduated from design school before embarking upon his professional career in the creative industry, in which he became well known for the unique ceramic works he produced at his studio, ‘M’s Ma’.
Ming thrives on the expression, in an abstract and minimal style, of the fine details of beauty and despair in our society. Although Ming works in a variety of subjects, this show will highlight his portraits and illustrations. Together with renowned Film Maker Yon Fan’s inscriptions, Ming’s illustrations emphasize a particular scene and moment in time, combining the visual with a poetic backdrop unique to each piece. In doing so, these works invite audiences to consider the history and realism of our ever-changing society. Through Ming’s distinctive use of colour and line in his portraits, the artist adds another dynamic to the compelling compositions of each figure portrayed.
“Ming Ma: The Artist Upstairs” will be exhibited together for the first time at Sotheby’s, Ming Ma’s portraits and illustrations inscribed by Yon Fan showcase one of the great creative camaraderies of the creative realm.
