Chinese Art from Caramoor Center for Music and the Arts includes a selection of Chinese works of art from the personal collection of Walter and Lucie Rosen, purchased in the 1920s-40s to furnish Rosen House in Katonah, Westchester County and their New York townhouse on West 54th Street. These pieces are now being sold to provide funding for the care of Rosen House at Caramoor, a performing arts venue founded by the Rosens in 1945. The 82-lot collection includes an exemplary selection of Imperial Chinese enamel wares, highlighted by an important Qianlong period five-piece cloisonné enamel temple garniture, formerly in the Samuel Avery collection at the Brooklyn Museum of Art, and a pair of Qianlong mark and period Beijing enamel vases. The sale also features a magnificent pair of gilt ormolu and paste-set European-style lanterns, also from the Qianlong period, and other works of art including jade carvings, stone sculpture, porcelain and bronzes. The auction is presented alongside a second sale of European Decorative Arts from Caramoor to be held in on 12 April.
