Sotheby's sale of Old Master & 19th Century European Art on 30 January brought a strong total of $2,326,337. View of the Molo from the Bacino di San Marco, atrributed to Bernardo Bellotto, led the auction, selling for $281,000, more than triple its high estimate. Also performing strongly, Still Life with Game and Fruit by Hendrik Reekers sold for $106,250 against an estimate of $20,000 - $30,000.
The yearly sale of Old Master & 19th Century European Art brings together seven centuries of art spanning the majority of Europe. Old Master Paintings, an important component of our famous Old Master Week, encompasses paintings from a 14th Century gold-ground to 18th Century views of Venice. Highlights of the 19th Century section include paintings and drawings by French, Italian, English, Dutch, German and Spanish artists, as well as a selection of Orientalist works.
