Results Sotheby's sale of Contemporary Curated brought a strong total of $17,674,188, with nearly 80% of lots sold. Kazuo Shiraga’s Untitled circa 1964, led the auction, selling for $1,810,000. Also performing strongly, THÉÂTRE DES ERREMENTS III, by Jean Dubuffet, sold for $640,000 against an estimate of $300,000-$400,000. Untitled (Our Prices are Insane!) by Barbara Kruger, sold for $502,000 over a pre-sale estimate of 200,000-300,000. A number of works sold for several times their low estimate including those by Karel Appel, Bosco Sodi, Richard Pousette-Dart, and Friedel Dzubas.
Sotheby’s March 5th Contemporary Curated auction will highlight a diverse range of works from the brightest stars of the post-war and contemporary periods. Examples from the Ab-Ex, Color Field and Gutai artists will be offered side-by-side with important works from the Pop and Pictures Generation as well as cutting-edge visionaries of today.
