Sotheby’s is committed to conducting its business with the highest level of integrity and transparency and to supporting an ethical art market.  Sotheby’s was the first participant in the art market to establish a global Compliance Department and continues to have the world’s largest full-time compliance team with offices in both New York and London.  The Compliance Department oversees the development and maintenance of programs and policies designed to facilitate Sotheby’s ongoing compliance with all applicable laws, rules and regulations governing our worldwide operations.  We educate and train Sotheby’s staff members about Sotheby’s policies and regulatory expectations and promote a culture of everyday adherence to our core values of excellence, honesty, transparency, ethical conduct and integrity.

Jane A. Levine is the Worldwide Director of Compliance for Sotheby’s, and is based in New York.  Prior to joining Sotheby’s, Jane was a federal prosecutor in the United States Attorney’s Office for the Southern District of New York, where she worked with the FBI’s Art Crime Team. Jane’s legal experience includes civil and commercial litigation. She also teaches a seminar at Columbia Law School on Art and Cultural Heritage Law. In 2011, Jane was appointed by President Obama to serve as a member of the President’s Cultural Property Advisory Committee. Jane enjoys writing and speaking publicly about art and cultural heritage law. She received a B.A. from Brown University and her J.D. from New York University School of Law.

Elyse M. Dreyer is North American Compliance Counsel for Sotheby’s and is based in New York.  Prior to joining Sotheby’s in 2008, Elyse was an associate at Debevoise & Plimpton, with a practice focusing on international arbitration, complex domestic litigation and international and internal investigations arising from regulatory enquiries. She also served as a law clerk to the Honorable Allyne R. Ross in the United States District Court for the Eastern District of New York. Elyse received her J.D. from Columbia Law School and a B.S. from The Edmund A. Walsh School of Foreign Service at Georgetown University. Elyse has a working knowledge of French.

Lena J. Wong is Compliance Counsel for Sotheby’s and is based in New York. Prior to joining Sotheby’s in 2017, Lena was an associate at a premier boutique litigation firm, Schindler Cohen & Hochman LLP in New York, and a member of the firm’s Art Law Group. She previously practiced at Wilmer Cutler Pickering Hale and Dorr LLP’s London office, where she specialized in international commercial arbitration and international litigation. Lena also served as a law clerk to the Honorable Ellen Gesmer of the Appellate Division of the New York Supreme Court, First Judicial Department. Lena received her B.A. in Art History from UCLA and her J.D. from Washington and Lee University School of Law. She has an advanced knowledge of French, working knowledge of Italian and Cantonese, and basic knowledge of Mandarin.

Cecilia joined Sotheby’s Global Compliance Department in 2011 and is based in London, where she focuses on compliance-related matters regarding Sotheby's European business. Prior to joining Sotheby’s, Cecilia worked in private practice for over 8 years, specializing in international cross-border litigation. She trained and qualified as a solicitor at international law firm Baker & McKenzie in London, also spending a period of time in the firm's Hong Kong office. She subsequently worked in the Litigation & Regulatory department at DLA Piper in London. Cecilia completed her undergraduate law degree at the London School of Economics & Political Science, including a year at the Université Robert Schuman in Strasbourg. Cecilia is fluent in French and has a working knowledge of German and Polish.

Jo joined Sotheby's Global Compliance Department in October 2013, and is based in London. Jo was formerly at Sotheby's as a Litigation Lawyer in the Legal Department between 1998 and 2005, when she relocated to the US. Prior to that, she was a litigation lawyer at Freshfields Bruckhaus Deringer. Jo completed her undergraduate degree at university college, London.

Juliette joined Sotheby's Global Compliance Department in 2015 and is based in Hong Kong, where she focuses on compliance-related matters regarding Sotheby's Asian business. Prior to joining Sotheby's, Juliette was an associate at Linklaters in Hong Kong, specializing in dispute resolution and regulatory investigations. Juliette completed her law degree at Victoria University of Wellington, New Zealand, and her Post Graduate Certificate of Law at the University of Hong Kong. Juliette is fluent in Mandarin and Cantonese.

Daria Woodhead is the Compliance Coordinator for Sotheby’s London, covering Europe, Asia and the Middle East. After graduating from Warwick University and working in the publishing sector, she joined Sotheby’s in 2008 and has been with the Compliance Department since February 2011. She assists Joanne Monks and Cecilia Fletcher with the daily queries coming into the department, sale reviews and internal audits. 





Compliance Coordinator

Priya Singh is the Compliance Coordinator for Sotheby’s London, covering Europe, Asia and the Middle East. She received her BA from Richmond, the American International University in London and an MSc from the LSE in Empires, Colonialism and Globalisation. She joined Sotheby’s in October 2016 and worked in the Contemporary, Private Client Group, Jewellery, Preferred, Books and Indian departments’ before joining the Compliance department in October 2017. She assists Cecilia Fletcher and Joanne Monks with the daily inquiries coming in to the department, sale reviews, licenses and internal audits. She has a working knowledge of German, Arabic, Persian and Hindi.





Compliance Coordinator

McKell Forbes is the Compliance Coordinator for Sotheby’s New York. McKell received her BA in Art History and Curatorial Studies from Brigham Young University and an MA in Art Business from Sotheby’s Institute of Art. She was the Director of Lawrence Steigrad Fine Arts prior to joining Sotheby’s in 2016. She works closely with Jane Levine and Elyse Dreyer on the daily inquiries that come to the department, compliance communications and programs, sale reviews, licenses, and internal audits. McKell is fluent in Italian.
