The tendency for private individuals to buy directly at auction and rising demand from Asian clients continued throughout the season,producing a very buoyant sold rate of 98.3% by value over six sales to July. Turnover in London reached £4.2 million for the period January to July, in excess of the total high estimate of £3.5 million. This success is a reflection of both the demand for the best wines of verifiable provenance and our experience in bringing great cellars to a totally international audience. ![]() BRILLIANT BOLLY by Serena Sutcliffe, M.W.The Institute of Masters of Wine believes in combining the academic with pure pleasure so they showed a logical disposition in putting on a Seminar devoted to Bollinger Champagne led by Ghislain de Montgolfier, the great-great-grandson of founder Jacques Joseph Bollinger. Bollinger remains in family hands and their on-going acquisition of prestigious vineyards enables them to supply two-thirds of their grape requirements, a great way to preserve house style and ensure quality. They still use old oak casks for the fermentation of the still wine and the reserve wines for the non-vintage Special Cuvée are kept in magnum, cru by cru, year by year.
